Sending WooCommerce emails via 2Mail

WooCommerce sends order confirmations, shipping notices and password resets through the same mail function as WordPress. As soon as your site is connected to 2Mail through an SMTP plugin, those shop emails go through the relay automatically. What remains is setting the sender correctly and testing each type of email once.

Step 1: the basic connection

If you have not set up an SMTP plugin yet, start with configuring an SMTP plugin in WordPress. Use a dedicated SMTP login from your 2mail account for your shop, separate from the login of any other site. A shop sends far more than a brochure site, and when something goes wrong you want to be able to revoke them separately.

Step 2: the sender in WooCommerce

WooCommerce has its own sender name and sender address in its email settings, independent of the ones in the SMTP plugin. Put the same address on your own domain there as in the plugin. If it differs — for instance an address at a free mail provider — the message is sent with a sender that does not belong to your sending domain, and that costs you deliverability.

Step 3: the reply address

Customers reply to order confirmations. Choose a sender address that is actually read, or set a separate reply address. An address that does not exist produces bounces at your customers and complaints about "no reply".

Step 4: test every type of email

Place a test order with an email address outside your domain and walk through the whole chain: order placed, payment received, order completed. Each step sends a different email with a different template. Check for each one:

  • does it land in the inbox, not the spam folder?
  • is it in the delivery log of the dashboard with a positive status?
  • are the logo, sender name and links in the message correct?

Step 5: keep an eye on the log

A shop sends mail while you sleep. In the first weeks, look regularly in the 2Mail delivery log for bounces and rejections. A customer who mistyped their email address shows up there immediately — and that is your chance to still reach them by phone. How to read that log is explained in reading the bounce log.

Common mistakes

  • Order confirmation arrives, shipping notice does not — usually a disabled email type in the WooCommerce email settings, not a relay problem.
  • Emails arrive twice — a second plugin or a payment module sends a confirmation of its own.
  • Marketing mail next to transactional mail — send your newsletters through a separate login or through the 2Mail campaign module, so a complaint about a newsletter never touches your order confirmations.
